With over 40 years of combined experience in residential design and installation, our design team specializes in innovative landscape solutions for a diverse range of project scopes and scale. We believe in the creation of distinct, meaningful, and functional landscapes inspired by each client’s unique needs. Landscape Design and Installation Process
Initial Consultation
At the initial consultation one of our qualified designers will review your project scope of work. Special attention will be given to site conditions, context, and existing elements. This is a great time to share your project needs, desires, and inspiration.
Design Presentation
The design presentation is an opportunity to review the overall concept as well as project details. It’s a great time to give feedback to your designer and ask questions about material performance and maintenance. Construction estimates will be provided at this meeting.
Contract & Installation
Once the down payment and all required documents are submitted, our project management team will be in touch with you in regard to the tentative start date. Your Project Manager will schedule a pre-construction meeting closer to the start date and walk-through all details of the project prior to our construction crews arriving.
Final Walkthrough
Upon completion of your project, Culver’s will schedule a walk-through of your new space. This is a great time to review care and maintenance of your new landscape features. A final invoice will be sent upon final project & punch-list completion.
Our Design Team
Marty Albert - PLA, ICPI
As our senior designer, Marty leads our Landscape Design Studio as well as our Professional Practice sector, Culver’s Design Group. He concentrates on creating a collaborative studio environments of diverse designers and leaders; offering effective input in the design process, from concept to construction. With over a decade of experience, Marty is passionate about placemaking and desires landscapes that are reflective of client goals and environment.
Marty is an active member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and serves on our Iowa Chapter’s Executive Committee. He is an Iowa State Alumnus and Licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Iowa. Marty is a writer and has a deep passion for the outdoors where he spends his free-time with his family.
Jason Pierce - ICPI
Jason graduated from Kirkwood with a degree in Architectural Technology where he began a 20-year career in residential home design. With a passion for landscaping and design, he joined Culver’s in 2020 where he received certifications and training in hardscape and garden design. Today, Jason leads our New Construction division guiding new home owners and builders through the landscape design and installation process. In his free time, he enjoys biking, sports, camping, and spending time with family.
Grant Soukup - ICPI, NCMA
Grant received his degree in Landscape Horticulture studies from Kirkwood in 2022. During his undergraduate studies he worked in Culver’s retail nursery absorbing plant knowledge and learning firsthand how to care for plant material. Post-graduation, Grant gained experience at Culver’s both in the field and office by leading construction crews, installing projects, and assisting our design team. He has a passion for creating outdoor spaces where families can enjoy and cherish their time together. In his free time, Grant enjoys watching sports, playing golf and spending quality time with family and friends.
Julie Mittelstadt - Associate Designer
Julie graduated from Iowa State University where she studied Landscape Architecture. Following her studies, she gained seven years of experience before joining our Culver’s team, specializing in site design and comprehensive master planning projects. Her keen sense for design detail and love for gardening helped her transition flawlessly into our design team. She performs critical roles on all comprehensive landscape planning projects, both in the residential and commercial realm. Julie is an active member of The American Society of Landscape Architects and is an active volunteer in our community. In her free time, she enjoys being involved in and watching her children’s activities, gardening and baking.
